Internet out of Bandwidth?
April 30, 2009
A recent study done by Nemertes Research shows that proliferation of bandwidth-intensive Web sites like YouTube and Hulu and services like BitTorrent are ruining the internets fragile infrastructure. They say that, “the Internet can handle World Wide Web hyperlinks as the day is long, but once you have millions of people streaming and downloading video, the whole thing comes crashing down.” And the recession is only making things worse because of people at home instead of work fiddiling around online. It’s just that there is too much traffic for the internet to handle.
This relates to informatics because it is the internet, the basis of our society, we are so used to having the internet around that if it were to fail or run out of bandwidth we would be done for.
This article scares me little, I never really thought that the internet could run out of bandwidth, I use the internet on a daily basis for alot of things, WoW to doing homework.
