Stop buying music from major labels
December 18, 2008
This is an old find, but I’m posting it to get it out there, because it’s still relevant. Last year, the biggest private torrent site focused on music was shut down by the interpol. This site was called oink, and I, along with thousands of others including famous people (Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails) was a member. The site along with it’s Bittorrent tracker was, in my opinion, the best music distribution tool ever created. They had everything you ever wanted plus ridiculously good download speeds because of all the gracious members who shared their stuff.
Anyway, this is basically a “down with the RIAA” post, because this article explains what’s wrong with the current model of the music industry. I think it’s time to ditch DRM and stop calling people who download “illegal” songs thieves or more properly “copyright infringers.” My close friend got fined $3000 for downloading music off LimeWire, and I’m sure everyone knows someone or at least knows someone who knows someone who also got fined for similar reasons. What is this crap? It’s time to stop buying CDs from the major labels, everyone. These people are jerks.
